There is an epidemic that exists in the workplace called learned helplessness. It involves the belief that we have a lack of control over our circumstances. For this reason, many people run to managers for instant solutions the moment they face a roadblock. And some supervisors will respond by telling the person exactly how to proceed.

Once you’ve committed yourself to achieving your dream, the world will start helping you achieve it. But this only happens if your mind is open to see and experience this: “When you carry your own dream within, you too will be able to touch the hearts and minds of the people around you in much the same way; and it is a truly wonderful and uplifting experience when you find out for yourself that the universe does indeed help you to achieve your goal.”

In 2011, the median weekly earnings for high school graduates was $638 while those with bachelor’s degrees made $1053. That same year, those with masters or doctoral degrees made $1263 and $1551 respectively.

High self-monitors are more likely to emerge as the leader of a group than are low self-monitors, since they more concerned with status-enhancement and are more likely to adapt their actions to fit the demands of the situation[83]

While the type of person can vary immensely, more often than not, they will all have a certain set of skills and personality traits that make them a good leader. According to recent surveys, many groups find that a good business leader will often have several or all of these characteristics.

While both essence and form are important, they need to be in balance. Often, if there is no integration between essence and form, a credibility gap appears and trust becomes an issue. Integrity is the integration between who one is and what one does – essence and form.

Leaders can also motivate and influence people through their natural charisma and appeal, and through other sources of power  , such as the power to pay bonuses or assign tasks to people. However, good leaders don’t rely too much on these types of power to motivate and inspire others.

Sure, it’s easier to do just enough to get by. To do what you’re used to doing. But if you seek out opportunities to create phenomenal returns and ramp up the quality of your work, success will come easier than you think.

You can not handle bad people. You need to focus on what you want and walk away from them. You can also talk to them and let them know that you are there, but your success comes before anything. Just remember that and just stay focused.

“Leadership is the ability to see a problem and be the solution,” said Andrea Walker-Leidy, owner of Walker Publicity Consulting. “So many people are willing to talk about problems or can even empathize, but not many can see the problem or challenge and rise to it. It takes a leader to truly see a problem as a challenge and want to drive toward it.”

When we attend a conference or other networking event, we have a tendency to flit from person to person and collect many business cards. This is the antithesis of what an introvert would do. As Cain says, introverts “prefer to connect one-on-one and around an issue they find important. So while an extrovert might attend an event and end up chatting with everyone, an introvert might attend an event, and have a few one-on-one conversations.”

The biggest problem is that people major in minor things, they learn a little bit of this and that, go to school, waste some time working a job they hate (some even waste their whole life), and while they’re on the train to the land of misery they also tend to settle for a partner they don’t truly love.

Control. At the beginning of a team’s life or your tenure as the team leader, when you do not yet have the insight into the team’s capabilities, the right approach is to exert authority and control. It is far easier to start tight and loosen control as needed.

Listen. To be an effective leader, one must listen to what those around you are saying, and then make a decision on what you have heard. To listen is very difficult, but one must, because the lowest of the low person in your business may say something that is effective and very important, something that you would never have thought of. So… learn to listen carefully, and when everyone has had their say, only then make a decision.

  1. But leadership really isn’t about a particular position or a person’s seniority. Just because someone has worked for many years doesn’t mean he has gained the qualities and skills to lead a team.  Getting promoted to a managerial position doesn’t automatically turn you into a leader.     By clearly describing his or her idea to their team, the leader will be able to create a sense of ease and understanding with his peers. When every member of the team is striving towards a common goal, then there is nothing that cannot be accomplished.
