Focus on your goals only, not comparing yourself to others. Everybody has their own advantages, disadvantages, and obstacles to overcome. Formulate a plan to achieve your own definition of success, and figure out the steps you need to take to get there (education, experience in a new job, investing, etc.), and begin taking the first to get there. Once you’re making progress toward your goal, no matter how small, you’ll be more driven by your own accomplishments and less worried about others.
Fear of failure (or even fear of success) often prevents you from taking action and putting your creation out there in the world. But a lot of opportunities will be lost if you wait for things to be right.

Get to know your team and learn from them: Getting to know your employees builds loyalty and trust and lets them know that you care about their personal well-being. As that trust builds, it opens up lines of communication that can prove valuable, especially with making strategic decisions. Just because you’re in charge doesn’t mean you have all the answers.
A good leader will be able to establish an honest connection with his or her peers. A relationship based on trust and reliability makes the team know that their leader is always there for them, which in turn inspires them to be there for their leader.
You have to know where your destination is before you can map out a plan to get there. To improve your leadership skills, first set specific life goals with appropriate timelines. Design your goals by moving backwards from the end of your life to the present week. Then, formulate action plans you can commit to that will get you to where you want to be.
While it is certainly possible to find that one product that everyone wants and grow rich by selling that product…most successful businesses evolve and grow and, as they make money, reinvest that money in a relentless pursuit of excellence.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a series of qualitative reviews of these studies (e.g., Bird, 1940; Stogdill, 1948; Mann, 1959) prompted researchers to take a drastically different view of the driving forces behind leadership. In reviewing the extant literature, Stogdill and Mann found that while some traits were common across a number of studies, the overall evidence suggested that persons who are leaders in one situation may not necessarily be leaders in other situations. Subsequently, leadership was no longer characterized as an enduring individual trait, as situational approaches (see alternative leadership theories below) posited that individuals can be effective in certain situations, but not others. The focus then shifted away from traits of leaders to an investigation of the leader behaviors that were effective. This approach dominated much of the leadership theory and research for the next few decades
Keep in mind that it is perfectly fine to spend some time doing nothing and just being lazy each day. This can actually help with your imagination and self-awareness. Strive for a balance between doing things you want to do and allowing yourself to just “be.”
There are a number of things that leaders can do to ensure that they are leading “with purpose”. The first is to make sure that you know what the overall organisational vision is or, if you’re in a senior role, that you have developed and disseminated a meaningful vision. Each leader will then need to think about how that vision can be made relevant to their team. Regular discussions about vision and values are important for people to see how their work fits in and contributes.

Each person in a group will be able to bring something different to the table, and a good leader will work with each member’s strengths and weaknesses in order to make sure that the best is being done.
Use newsletters, your company intranet and team meetings to help spread the word. And, whenever there’s a change – good, bad or ugly – update your employees and tell them why it’s happening. And, expect the same from your direct reports.
They don’t react to the day-to-day noise in their business, instead, they seek systematic and strategic solutions that not only resolve today’s problems but also prevent future problems from occurring.
1. Lead by example. Any attempt to rule with an iron fist will go down like a lead balloon – after all, your coworkers don’t report to you. The best way to motivate your colleagues is to set the example of how you expect others to approach the project. If you’re enthusiastic, they’ll be enthusiastic. If you snipe and make snide remarks, so will they. Even if you’re inwardly grumbling about the extra pressure and workload, avoid complaining around your teammates.

Not admitting my mistakes came from a sense of superiority and pride. I thought, I’m the leader so I must be right. I now understand leadership differently. It’s a servant role. And like anyone in business, you are never going to have all of the answers. Revealing you are human is helpful; good leaders go and find the answers the team needs.
Indonesia’s Joko Widodo won a closely fought presidential election on promises to break with the authoritarian past, improve welfare for the poor and take on corruption, end nepotism and intolerance, which had flourished during the 31-year-long dictatorship of former President Suharto. Value experiences over objects. Humans can be extraordinarily obsessed with money. It’s strange, too, because scientists think that our memories of our experiences make us happier than objects we can buy with money. Focus on making great memories with great people along the way, and you should be happy.
Leaders flex their leadership style according to circumstances. Rather than having one preferred or dominant style, you need to be able to shift the way you lead between the four core styles of leadership to suit the current situation and the individuals on your team: Controlling, Coaching, Consulting and Collaborating.
Face it – No one is perfect, and everyone has made a mistake or two in their lives! The most successful leaders know that the key to success is not in avoiding falling or failing, but to learn from their mistakes. As a strong leader, you will also be able to communicate your weaknesses to your team, so that you and your team can appoint someone who excels at that particular task or activity.
There needs to be a distinction here between dressing to impress and dressing to influence. You don’t necessarily want to dress to impress — impressing may not be appropriate for the scenario you’re in (if you are delivering pizzas, don’t wear a suit, for example). You simply want to influence people’s perceptions of you. What image do you want to give off? You can largely control what they perceive of you and your attitude by what you wear (sad, but true).
The lead-up to starting a business is hard work, but after you open your doors, your work has just begun. In many cases, you have to put in more time than you would if you were working for someone else, which may mean spending less time with family and friends to be successful.
People with a fixed mindset think their intelligence or talents are pre-determined traits that cannot be changed. They also believe that talent alone leads to success — without hard work. But they’re wrong.
