We all want to achieve success so we could live a comfortable life—have financial freedom, drive a nice car, and live in a beautiful house. However, although success can be achieved, it does not come easy.
Charisma is certainly helpful, but it’s not essential. There have been many admired leaders in the human history who weren’t the friendliest, most charming of people in the bunch. What was important, however, was that people trusted them, and they were inspired by his or her vision. What you will need is good communication skills (whether it’s through speaking, writing, even art) so you can articulate your vision.
Good leaders are also those who allow their team to develop autonomy and add value according to their own personal strengths. Being able to recognize the strengths of individuals within their team, and allowing them to be responsible and accountable, not only increases employees’ confidence in themselves and their leader, but also increases their performance.

Nitin Nohria reflects on Winston Churchill’s devastating defeat at Gallipoli, which resulted in over 100,000 Allied casualties during World War I. “The campaign was a total fiasco for British military leadership,” he notes. “When it was over, Churchill took complete responsibility. A setback like that could have been paralyzing, but he was able to move forward to lead his country to victory in World War II.”

Kurt Lewin, Ronald Lipitt, and Ralph White developed in 1939 the seminal work on the influence of leadership styles and performance. The researchers evaluated the performance groups of eleven-year-old boys under different types of work climate. In each, the leader exercised his influence regarding the type of group decision making, praise and criticism (feedback), and the management of the group tasks (project management) according to three styles: authoritarian, democratic, and laissez-faire.[33]

When it comes to public perceptions of great leadership, certain industries are highly regarded. The hotels, leisure and tourism industry is currently topping public perceptions, swiftly followed by business technology and professional and business services.
9. Invest in people. To be a great leader, you need to start at the heart of what matters in your organization–and what matters is your people. If you want to see them happy, engaged, loyal and dedicated, make the time to invest in them, nurture them and provide them with a clear vision of what needs to be done.
Honest dealings, predictable reactions, well-controlled emotions, and an absence of tantrums and harsh outbursts are all signs of integrity. A leader who is centered in integrity will be more approachable by followers.

Situational: Situational leadership encourages leaders to take stock of their team members, weigh the many variables in their workplace, and choose the leadership style that best fits their circumstances.
Coach. Where team members are more skilled, shift to guiding the team, giving critical advice at key moments. While coaching your whole team, remember you are first and foremost coaching people. Tailor your approach to each individual and their particular needs; find an approach that works for them.
That’s because the problem with typical goal setting is that the goals set are too broad — and you have no idea where to start. So when you set a goal like, “I want to get healthy,” you end up spinning your wheels.
A great leader is one who successfully serves the people he/she is supposed to lead. Period. Success will be dependent upon circumstances and opportunities. What does not make them a great leader: serving self interest, ducking responsibity, enriching themselves, not caring for their people, blindness for reality.
Being a charity board member is one of the best ways of getting hands-on team building and leadership-building experiences. Yes, it’s true that some organizations have boards composed of people with massive name recognition, experience, or bank accounts. But, there are probably numerous nonprofits in your community that would be thrilled to have you join and offer your time and skills.
Part of the trust-building process is creating an environment where it’s safe to take risks and allows you and your employees to comfortably exchange candid, honest and direct feedback without the fear of being punished.
Praise is powerful stuff, especially when it comes from leaders! That’s why 52% of employees say their most memorable recognition comes from their managers. It’s vital to encourage managers to recognise their team’s efforts, in person or with powerful virtual rewards like praise badges. Remember, it’s not all about the big fanfares for outstanding achievements. 70% of employees say motivation and morale would improve ‘massively’ if managers simply said ‘thank you’ more often.
A leader has to have experience in the trenches,andnotonlythat, but to also· have the confidence in himself and his subordinates to accomplish the necessary goals for success. That comes by looking at those under him/her as equals.  Also , that person has to exude positive qualities and ambition to be the best one can be in whatever one hopes to accomplish.
The most junior eat first, followed in rank order, with the leaders eating last. This isn’t a rule, they simply do this because in the Marines, they believe that the responsibility of a leader is to put others’ needs above their own.
Let the members of your team know that you welcome their ideas. Leaders who encourage involvement from group members are often referred to as democratic or participative leaders. While they retain the final say over all decisions, they encourage team members to take an active role in coming up with ideas and plans.

    Top-down leaders driven by hubris have a hard time detaching from their own inner voices to consider other voices, because they think they’re always right. Great leaders are present and in the moment. They don’t need to talk over others to get their point across. To quote former Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen CEO Cheryl Bachelder:
