Charisma is certainly helpful, but it’s not essential. There have many admired leaders in the human history who weren’t the friendliest, most charming of people in the bunch. What was important, however, was that people trusted them, and they were inspired by his or her vision. What you will need is good communication skills (whether it’s through speaking, writing, even art) so you can articulate your vision.
Have you ever had a micro-managing boss? One of those managers who requires that everything in done is a strict, step-by-step process and constantly looks over your shoulder? Super annoying, right? According to Maxwell, managers like this may have the title but they aren’t leaders.
For over 50 years he has campaigned tirelessly for peace, nonviolence, democracy, and reconciliation, especially among world religions; he has met countless times with popes, rabbis, imams, and others to find common ground. Winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, the Dalai Lama radiates charisma. As for his influence, just ask those who look for his guidance on Twitter. All 8.6 million of them.
“I think a great leader is one who makes those around him/her better. There are many litmus tests for a great leader, but I really look to those around them,” said Dana Brownlee, founder of Professionalism Matters. “Are they growing, becoming better leaders themselves, motivated, etc.?”
He’s the most accomplished leader in global finance. Operating in the economy’s most hobbled and reviled sector since the 2008 meltdown, Chenault has kept AmEx (AXP) noncontroversial, strong, stable, and admired. At least twice during the crisis he declined offers to lead even larger institutions, insiders say. Chenault previously led the company through the 9/11 attacks, which decimated travel, the basis of its business.
“Successful” is a song by Canadian recording artist Drake. American R&B singer Trey Songz is featured as well as Drake’s mentor and labelmate Lil Wayne. It was produced by Noah “40” Shebib. The song was written by the trio and its producer, Noah “40” Shebib. The song served as the second single from Drake’s mixtape, So Far Gone, and was included on Trey Songz’s third studio album, Ready, sans Wayne and the addition of a new verse by Songz. Accompanied by a dark tone, the songs lyrics contain quips of self-determination.
Luckily for most of us, personal success is not a matter of background, intelligence, or native ability. It’s not our family, friends, or contacts who enable us to do extraordinary things. Instead, the keys to success are our ability to get the very best out of ourselves under almost all conditions and circumstances. It is your ability to adapt and change your life.
Not only do leaders have a clear vision, they also communicate it so their followers understand the big picture. It can be as simple as giving progress updates and reminders about the importance of your goals or as elaborate as team workshops to immerse everyone in your mission. As a leader it is your responsibility to decide what method of communication works best and implement it.
To be an effective leader, you should be confident enough to ensure that other follow your commands. If you are unsure about your own decisions and qualities, then your subordinates will never follow you. As a leader, you have to be oozing with confidence, show some swagger and assertiveness to gain the respect of your subordinates. This does not mean that you should be overconfident, but you should at least reflect the degree of confidence required to ensure that your followers trust you as a leader.
This is similar to “the one who yells loudest gets heard.” Just because that person is loud certainly doesn’t mean they’re right. You don’t have to be going 90 mph (140 km/h) leaving a trail of rubble behind you to be a good leader. Actually, you shouldn’t be doing that. Your time should be spent interpreting, molding, and offering solutions.
Today’s business professionals know that in order to achieve success, they must commit to lifelong learning and skill building. Enrolling in online business courses is one route to improving your leadership skill set, and earning valuable leadership certification.
14.  “All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of their people in their time. This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership.” –John Kenneth Galbraith
Admit your mistakes. You aren’t perfect, and occasionally showing that you could have planned something differently will show that you are only human and will make people respect you more. Of course, you can avoid always admitting that you’ve made a mistake, because you want to look like you know what the heck you’re doing.
In 1963, King organized the massive March on Washington, where he made his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. The passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 is noted as one of the many reasons Dr. King received the Nobel Peace Prize that same year. Dr. King used his transformational leadership skills to continue inspiring African-Americans and their allies to fight for civil rights using nonviolence means until his assassination in 1968.
Once you’ve committed yourself to achieving your dream, the world will start helping you achieve it. But this only happens if your mind is open to see and experience this: “When you carry your own dream within, you too will be able to touch the hearts and minds of the people around you in much the same way; and it is a truly wonderful and uplifting experience when you find out for yourself that the universe does indeed help you to achieve your goal.”
People with vested interests (academics and those offering leadership training or literature of some sort) are convinced that it can. Many successful leaders, however, have never had any formal training. For them leadership is a state of mind, and it is their personalities and traits that make them successful leaders.
3. Don’t play favorites. Avoid assigning friends plum assignments and not-so-close colleagues the grunt work. Now is the time to bring out those leadership and collaboration skills to encourage everyone to do their best work and meet deadlines. Remind the team of short and long-term project objectives, and celebrate when each one is met.
Gain pleasure. Avoid pain. That’s pretty much what we’re wired for. But is there more to life? Will Edwards considered the question and realized that there is. He realized that we need to wake up to our life purpose and dedicate ourselves to fulfilling it. That’s the only way we’ll live to the full. In 7 Keys to Success, he discusses what it takes to do just that:
“Coaching allows leaders to make the connection and apply [changes] in a real-life setting,” Iorio said. “You need time to integrate, process and reflect, and unless you go through those steps, you won’t have sustainable change.”
Create a team of leaders. Developing leaders across the team is developing a better team. The strongest teams are those in which more members inspire, support, challenge and hold each other accountable. Yet even in teams full of capable leaders you remain ultimately accountable. A leader’s work is never done.
Don’t let failure define you. When asked about his 10,000 failed attempts to develop a storage battery, the prolific American inventor Thomas Edison responded: “I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”[3]
Lamar Anderson, Director of Product and Programs at Owens Corning, knows this to be true. “I treat everyone with the same level of respect, from the cleaning crew to the CEO. I stop to speak to many people throughout my day, just to say hello. I create an environment where many people feel comfortable opening up to me about very personal things. My peers and higher-ups can see for themselves how people interact with me, and it is easier for someone to do something for you when they genuinely like you as a person and respect you in return.”
“Look at three positive things about a problem before you identify what makes it dissatisfying,” Mann said. “The more you look at the positives in a problem, the more positively people react with one another.”
That’s it.  The best way to get better at it is with experience.  Don’t focus on leading other people.  You should never set out to lead others.  Set out to achieve a vision and inspire people.  I cannot stress this enough.
You want to be a leader at work, learn to take responsibility for anything that has your fingerprint on it. That means, as long as you participate in the project, you have a hand at the failure of the project.
If want to study more in one day, follow a schedule of 1 hour and 40 minutes for study, 5 min for quick revision and 15 min to relax. For next hour, change the subject. Like this, you can achieve 6 to 8 hours study continuously.
Can you remember when you last listened to someone without interruptions or distractions from either telephone calls or drop-in visitors, when you just focused intently on the person speaking with you, ignoring all else? When CEO Alan Mulally arrived at Ford, he used a technique he had refined at Boeing. He found a way to instantly shift the senior executives on his team from talkers to listeners by changing the way he evaluated his team’s performance.
David Logan talks about the five kinds of tribes that humans naturally form — in schools, workplaces, even the driver’s license bureau. By understanding our shared tribal tendencies, we can help lead each other to become better individuals.
Trust other people to do their job. It’s hard to be successful if you don’t trust the people around you. You’re constantly micro-managing everything, leaving yourself spread thin and the others miffed about you not giving them a chance. Being successful is partly about assembling an able team around you. If you can’t trust others enough to let them do their job, you probably won’t succeed at that.

  1. But achieving your ultimate life requires a tremendous deal of learning. It requires an intense dedication to gaining knowledge, learning important lessons, and receiving teachings that add to your wisdom, experience, and education.
Knowing this, we’re going to want to reframe that “I want to be healthy” goal into something much mores specific and actionable such as, “I want to eat 3 healthy meals per week and go to the gym 2 times a week for 15 minutes.”
From Michelangelo Buonarroti, Great Renaissance Artist: “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
