The second is building and maintaining the team. Saying you need a team to accomplish something is one thing, but developing one, and consistently encouraging and motivating it, is something else, and something you must do.
When I looked back on my days as an athlete, I understood what was different. I remembered what (or who) made me push myself even when I didn’t want to. The difference was, as an athlete, I had structured days and a coach to report to. Structure keeps us focused and a coach keeps pushing and challenging us.
Leaders know that patience is not about waiting around for results, it’s about following through and executing the plan, not giving up when you face hurdles, working hard and learning how to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

3. Leverage team strengths. Part of awareness is don’t expect people to change. If you think you can change someone, think again. This doesn’t mean you can’t help them grow and develop. But don’t expect to change anyone (even yourself) behaviorally. We are who we are. Your job as a leader is to understand each person’s strengths and place them in positions where they can flourish and grow. If you are good at that, you have a huge part of the equation for success.
Would you look to someone for guidance and leadership if they did not truly about the goals of the group? Of course not! Great leaders are not just focused on getting group members to finish tasks; they have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the projects they work on.
Work toward boosting your GPA. Once this is where you’d like it to be, focus on what you’d like to be post-college. Try to gain some experience in this field by way of internship, joining related organizations, and reading to stay on top of new developments in the field.
Be consistent in your interactions. If you’re very friendly during group meetings, but chilly when you pass an employee in the hall, your workers may get mixed signals and may not like you very much. It’s important to be cordial at all times–not just during the important ones.

What’s particularly helpful here is when leaders have expert power . People admire and believe in these leaders because they are expert in what they do. They have credibility, and they’ve earned the right to ask people to listen to them and follow them. This makes it much easier for these leaders to motivate and inspire the people they lead.

Although research has indicated that group members’ dependence on group leaders can lead to reduced self-reliance and overall group strength, most people actually prefer to be led than to be without a leader (Berkowitz, 1953). If you have friends or family members who always make you feel bad about yourself, limit the time you spend with them. Also, make sure to identify relationships that are not helping you to move towards your goals, that stress you out, or that require too much of your time and energy without being reciprocal.
However, a true leader will engage this employee in a troubleshooting discussion—demonstrating his or her confidence in the person’s critical thinking. In this situation, ask how she thinks she can best move forward and add value. Once she realizes that you trust her to find a solution, she’ll begin to problem-solve on her own.

Have good manners. An individual should always show respect to other people and distinguish oneself as a lady or gentleman. As a famous Jamaican proverb goes, “Manners carry you through the world and back without a penny.”
