Comparable to the Roman tradition, the views of Confucianism on “right living” relate very much to the ideal of the (male) scholar-leader and his benevolent rule, buttressed by a tradition of filial piety.
It means that you are willing to admit you could be wrong, that you recognize you may not have all the answers. And it means that you give credit where credit is due – – which many people struggle to do.
Never forget where you’re coming from. Many people, after achieving some success, bad-mouth where they come from. This is a sure recipe for failure in the future as the same ones you talk badly about now can be the ones who rescue you in the long run.
The skills outlined here are perhaps the most important, but others may also be helpful. The best leaders know that they still have much to learn, and continue to try to develop a wide range of skills all the time.
It takes time to collect information, and there’s a sense in leadership that you need to move quickly. We are paid to respond and act, not to sit back and wait for someone else to solve problems. Yet I made the mistake of acting before analyzing. In a few cases, I even approved projects, new hires, and direction before getting 100% of the data.
There’s so much that contributes to working effectively with others and keeping team members motivated and engaged that a manager’s work is never done. A one on one on your calendar ensures there’s always time to cover these critical issues that otherwise slip and build up to big, costly problems later.
Keep track of your expenses. Subtract your monthly expenses from your monthly income to determine how much spending money you have available each month. Also, review your bank statements often and notice where you spend your money. This will help you prevent over-spending and ensure that your bank statements are correct.
While the type of person can vary immensely, more often than not, they will all have a certain set of skills and personality traits that make them a good leader. According to recent surveys, many groups find that a good business leader will often have several or all of these characteristics.
Having positive role models in your life can help keep you motivated and lead you in the right direction. Your role model may or may not be somebody you know personally. Learn about your role model’s life story and try to adopt their work ethic.
You have to be careful in how you define leadership, though. Successful leadership could simply mean the ability to get people to follow you. In that manner, Jack would be an excellent leader also (of course, so would Hitler). If your question simply asking which boy would make better, more sound decisions in a leadership role, then your answer is certainly Ralph without question. But in terms of building a following, Jack was much more effective.
Hit singles and doubles, not home runs. Of course, hitting a home run isn’t a bad thing at all! It’s just that you can’t rely on them to win the game every single time. Try letting singles and doubles add up to the same value as home runs.
