Even if you get knocked down at the first hurdle, you should always keep going. Resilience is a key trait for success as it is what can help you to continue going, no matter what. In life, you will face obstacles and things that might hinder your success. However, having resilience can really help you to bounce back from these things quickly.
Leadership means different things to different people around the world, and different things in different situations. For example, it could relate to community leadership, religious leadership, political leadership, and leadership of campaigning groups.
A more effective approach to managing today’s thought workers is to adopt a leader-leader model. In its simplest form, the leader-leader model forces you to push power and responsibility as low on the organizational hierarchy as possible. This allows leaders at every level to re-focus their efforts on more meaningful tasks, while trusting those below them to figure out how to get their job done.
That’s how you open up. Pour out all you got from inside you. Give all you have ideas, thoughts, plans. Feel the vulnerability and learn to like it. When you pour all your ideas out you will need new ones. Where do new ideas come from? From critics who want to tear you down, from well-meaning supporters and from people you least expect.

Widely admired within the Googleplex for her management style, Wojcicki was instrumental in guiding the evolution of the company’s hugely successful advertising and commerce platforms. “Communication is the real work of leadership,” says HBS professor Nitin Nohria, who documented the importance of persuasion in his 1992 book Beyond the Hype: Rediscovering the Essence of Management. Nohria believes effective leaders are masters of the classical elements of rhetoric, as outlined by Aristotle centuries ago. “You can reach people through logos or logic, by appealing to their sense of what is rational,” he explains. “You can use pathos, appealing to their emotions, or you can make an argument based on their sense of values or ethos.” Great leaders, he notes, “spend the bulk of their time communicating, and they know how to employ all three of Aristotle’s rhetorical elements.”
Managers need to understand that employees look to them for guidance and support. A lack of communication only leads to confusion and time-wasted by employees. Weekly surveys are also a great way to keep ongoing touch points with new hires and to make sure that their onboarding is going well.
Integrated Psychological theory began to attract attention after the publication of James Scouller’s Three Levels of Leadership model (2011).[52] Scouller argued that the older theories offer only limited assistance in developing a person’s ability to lead effectively.[53] He pointed out, for example, that:

Use the last example as a template; to become a great speaker, you need to improve voice and presentation skills as these are the basic skills needed for a speaker. But if you are lacking speech writing or subject knowledge skills, you can try to outsource them to an expert. This is called working smart. Many great leaders don’t write their own speeches; they focus on delivering it right.
Those who had observed Nelson Mandela closely said he always carried himself as someone who was born to lead, who knew the meaning of leadership. As an icon of freedom and the most vivid example of the power of forgiveness and reconciliation, he displayed a conspicuous sense of dignity and humanity that nothing in 27 years of imprisonment had been capable of destroying. Cecil Rhodes (1853–1902) believed that public-spirited leadership could be nurtured by identifying young people with “moral force of character and instincts to lead”, and educating them in contexts (such as the collegiate environment of the University of Oxford) which further developed such characteristics. International networks of such leaders could help to promote international understanding and help “render war impossible”. This vision of leadership underlay the creation of the Rhodes Scholarships, which have helped to shape notions of leadership since their creation in 1903.[13]

Good leaders are good communicators. You have to do it all the time. It means thinking about what other people know and how they are experiencing what you are doing, especially change. It’s important to communicate in a way other people can relate to and engage with. And you have to make it easy for people to remember what you are saying: make it simple, clear and coherent.
Even when things look bleak and your followers start to feel disheartened, try to stay positive. This does not mean viewing things through rose-colored glasses. It simply means maintaining a sense of optimism and hope in the face of challenges.
Because we’re HUMANS — and as humans we are naturally cognitive misers and have limited willpower. Just doing the five whys and investigating your guilt takes a lot — so just pick it up later when you’re fresh and ready to take action. I suggest setting aside some time in a day or two so you don’t keep pushing it off.
If you are not resilient, you may run away as soon as you have to face a difficult situation, which will not help you on your journey to becoming successful. Try and become more resilient. Learn to deal with tough situations, so that you can power through and become successful.
Remember that it is about the entire team. The greatest leaders saw their role to an end, and themselves, as an instrument of a deeper purpose; any glory, prestige, or wealth was a side effect rather than a motivation. After all, nothing would get done with just the efforts of one man. Or woman!
On the other hand, if you’re a hard working, driven person who is willing to take risks to achieve your goals, people who are also like that will see you as a kindred spirit. The key is to not be afraid to approach people and make friends.
This is critical because the longer you or an employee withholds key information, the more it hurts your organization. It prevents you from building trust and an open environment that will develop your team. You’ll earn credibility when you are open to feedback and work toward making changes to fix issues as they arise.

Other approaches include restating the vision in terms of the benefits it will bring to the team’s customers, and taking frequent opportunities to communicate the vision in an attractive and engaging way.
If you feel like you’re not getting a valuable experience, don’t feel like you have to keep the relationship going. Don’t just disappear and not return their calls and emails. But certainly don’t waste either of your valuable time. Communicate your feelings and move on.

Five elements – heart, brain, muscle, nerve, and soul – are key for Schwab, while compassion, canniness, and courage as well as the ability to identify talent and understand complexity are essential for Mahbubani. I’ve always wanted to be successful and my curiosity drove me to find out how other people became successful, causing me to take actionable steps that have helped me get where I am today. You absolutely need to be curious.”
