“what makes a person a good leader as a leader”

Men don’t become highly successful by accident. While the concept of how “successful” a man is remains a matter of personal judgment, regardless of a man’s wealth or fame, there are undeniable habits and traits a man has to have to help him achieve success and to maximize his true potential.
High self-monitors are more likely to emerge as the leader of a group than are low self-monitors, since they are more concerned with status-enhancement and are more likely to adapt their actions to fit the demands of the situation[83]
Leadership is a combination of tangible and intangible skills such as wisdom, integrity and presence, that can be developed by personal evaluation and insight and the desire to grow. The definition of leadership depends upon individuals in particular situations or circumstances. What makes a great leader in one context may not in another. A great leader knows his or her strengths and weaknesses, exhibits wise judgment and a steady hand and is able to guide employees towards reaching personal and professional success.
I’m a managing partner at a NYC hedge fund and also a huge fan of classical music, so when I came across this TED talk by Itay Talgam, “Lead Like The Great Conductors” I knew that I had to watch. The knowledge that I got from this talk was invaluable, and I encourage you to watch as well.
Have good manners. An individual should always show respect to other people and distinguish oneself as a lady or gentleman. As a famous Jamaican proverb goes, “Manners carry you through the world and back without a penny.”
They need to know why the organization is pursuing the current strategies. They need their leader for guidance and to help remove any barriers they may experience along the way. Managers need to understand that employees look to them for guidance and support. A lack of communication only leads to confusion and time-wasted by employees. Weekly surveys are also a great way to keep ongoing touch points with new hires and to make sure that their onboarding is going well.

Multiple definitions of leadership exist, although the different definitions generally converge in the theory that great leaders have the ability to make strategic and visionary decisions and convince others to follow those decisions. The consensus is leaders create a vision and can successfully get others to work toward achieving that goal. They do this by setting direction and inspiring others to want to succeed in achieving the end result. Moreover, they are capable of getting people excited and motivated to work toward the vision.
This leadership definition captures the essentials of being able to inspire others and being prepared to do so. Effective leadership is based upon ideas (whether original or borrowed), but won’t happen unless those ideas can be communicated to others in a way that engages them enough to act as the leader wants them to act.
Trust your instinct. If it doesn’t feel right, the chances are it isn’t right. I’m a great believer in the power of the subconscious, given time, to steer us to the right answers. That’s why I often prefer to have a couple of discussions before taking a difficult decision, even if that slows down the process. It helps give me certainty about what I think, and it helps the wider leadership group understand each other’s point of view and build consensus. The end result is a better decision with better buy-in.

  1. Leading a group of people requires a mutual sense of trust and understanding between the leader and the team members. As a first step toward that goal, leaders should learn to connect. Terry “Starbucker” St. Marie, a leadership writer and consultant, said that being what he calls a “more human” leader requires positivity, purpose, empathy, compassion, humility and love. These key traits will put you on the road to genuine connections with the members of your team.
Leadership is found in those who think outside the box and demonstrate creative new ways of thinking. Creativity may mean empowering employees to take risks and expand their professional scope past what they dreamed possible. According to Patty Vogan, executive leadership coach and chair of TEC International, great leaders have the vision and character to inspire employees to be creative. Leaders who share their own vision for success with their employees, and inspire them through strength of character and good decision making, lead to a creative workplace. In the small business world, this type of creative leadership will keep employees fired up with new ideas.
