Great leaders have two passions, firstly a passion for their people and secondly a passion for the organisation and its purpose. They combine these two passions to provide focus and purpose for their people and, in doing so, they engage the passion of their people.
When it comes to public perceptions of great leadership, certain industries are highly regarded. The hotels, leisure and tourism industry is currently topping public perceptions, swiftly followed by business technology and professional and business have two ears and one mouth for a reason. We have a tendency to talk about ourselves, but try to tone that down and give your colleague a chance to tell about themselves the next time you talk. Try that, and you will see the joy in their eyes! Let them speak about the things they care about and the things that worry them. This is a chance to know them better and establish a meaningful bond with them.
The true leader will have the ability to gather people around him. People will listen to him even when he’s not known as the leader. He’ll motivate people. The one with those abilities should be the right leader.

In order to be a truly effective leader, you need to take stock of your personal characteristics and skill sets and assess your strengths and weaknesses. Further education in leadership and management coupled with continued professional development of your skills are key. In this age of digital enlightenment and rapidly evolving workplaces, the definition of effective leadership is constantly evolving and to keep up, leaders need to continuously ask questions of themselves.
Personal Story: I believe that creativity in business comes from outside inspiration. For example, I enjoy cooking/grilling, interior design and graphic design (it helps that I have interior design and BBQ retail clients). But I make a point to find time for these creative activities which are not only therapeutic but they can also ignite my professional creativity. What are your creative outlets?
