While in some arenas you may be able to get by only some of these skills or none of them (if you can hire good enough people to do it for you), generally speaking you must have at least some skills in financial management, human resources, information management, sales, marketing, etc.

One of the most important aspects of leadership is that not every leader is the same. Of course we have all heard jokes about ‘mushroom’ leadership (keep them in the dark and feed them manure) and ‘seagulls’ (swoop in, squawk, and drop unpleasant things on people) but, joking aside, there are many different styles of leadership.
Personal Story: There’s a local Mexican restaurant that I love, not only because the food is awesome, but I love how it’s run. The owner brings food/drinks to customers, answers the phone and everything in between. He even makes sure to say hello to every person that comes into his door, even with over 100 packed tables. Now that’s an engaged leader!

Treat your troop with respect and be careful not to be too bossy. If you feel your troop is getting out of control, quiet them down by raising two fingers and asking them to do the same, saying “One, two, three, eyes on me!”, or by clapping three times and asking them to repeat it to come to order. This will cut down on yelling at the group.

Don’t do everything yourself. Great leaders, such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Virgin mogul Richard Branson, surround themselves with talented individuals who can offer their own solutions. Set the vision and determine the goals, but trust people to make it happen. Tolerance is good; indecisiveness is bad. Communicate the vision for the future and if things need changing, tell people and involve them in making the changes. Show your confidence by letting them participate in the design of a new strategy. If the team is too cautious in their approach to change, give them one more chance but with greater clarity.
It’s important that leaders at every level of the business successfully engage their team with the business mission. This is because employees are more engaged when they understand their place in the bigger picture. Live purposefully. In order to achieve your dreams and be the person you want to be, you will have to start paying attention to your actions. Ask yourself, “Is what I’m doing going to lead me to where I want to be in life?”[3]
Sharp perception: Do you know how people really perceive you? Effective leaders do. They have an easy level of honest communication with their teams and their peers, and a thorough understanding of how they are perceived. Testing others’ perception of you can be as simple as observing their behavior. Are your co-workers and team members relaxed around you? Does all conversation stop when you enter the room? 
Finding what you love to do will give you motivation along the way. Imagine being forced to do a triathlon when your true passion is chess. Pretty difficult, huh? Now imagine the opportunity to participate in a chess tournament. It’s much, much easier to persistently chip away at your goal if your goal is something you enjoy doing. Write what your motivations and goals for yourself are.
The third – personal leadership – is an “inner” level and concerns a person’s growth toward greater leadership presence, knowhow and skill. Working on one’s personal leadership has three aspects: (1) Technical knowhow and skill (2) Developing the right attitude toward other people – which is the basis of servant leadership (3) Psychological self-mastery – the foundation for authentic leadership.
5. Celebration. In today’s work environment, people are working very long hours and they need to take some time to celebrate their successes in order to recharge their batteries. Those leaders who fail to do this create burnout environment overtime.
Charisma is certainly helpful, but it’s not essential. There have been many admired leaders in the human history who weren’t the friendliest, most charming of people in the bunch. What you will need is good communication skills (whether it’s through speaking, writing, even art) so you can articulate your vision.
You may find that you give up easily, or feel that you cannot achieve success… and this could be the problem! If you can learn to believe in yourself and try to develop new habits and traits that successful people have, this could make success a lot easier and more achievable for you.
For example, Nalini Ambady, a researcher at Tufts University, shows that when people watch 30-second soundless clips of real physician-patient interactions, their judgments of the physician’s niceness predict whether or not that physician will be sued. So it doesn’t have to do so much with whether or not that physician was incompetent, but do we like that person and how they interacted?
Even when things look bleak and your followers start to feel disheartened, try to stay positive. This does not mean viewing things through rose-colored glasses. It simply means maintaining a sense of optimism and hope in the face of challenges.
There are numerous guidelines, books, classes and consultants aimed at helping individuals develop these traits and, perhaps more importantly, understand which traits are most effective under which circumstances and with which teams.
Most of us simply exist from one day to the next instead of really living. “To succeed, you must have a dream… and you must completely commit yourself to its ultimate fulfillment,” Edwards writes. The dream can be as big as you want as long as it’s your dream and not someone else’s.
A leadership style is a leader’s style of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people. It is the result of the philosophy, personality, and experience of the leader. In order to succeed, integrity is an important trait to have. When you are honest, people will believe in you, they can help you and you can also take pride in knowing that you are honest with yourself and others.
