Look at what the numbers are telling you. Did you ever have an idea about something but were afraid that the numbers (i.e. metrics) wouldn’t back it up? That fear is normal, but it’s a good idea to let the numbers give you guidance. Better to be wrong and adapt than to stubbornly insist you’re doing it right when the numbers don’t back that up.

Have fair assessments. Whether you’re giving a quiz or a final exam, it’s important to make sure the assignment is fair and useful for your students. They will be better students after all of your hard work, and will thank you for being an understanding teacher and classroom leader.
In every strategic planning session that I have conducted for large and small corporations, the first value that all the gathered executives agree upon for their company is integrity. They all agree on the importance of complete honesty in everything they do, both internally and externally.
The fifth and final characteristic of a successful leader is being responsible. A business owner has to realize that, as the saying goes, “A skunk stinks from the head down,” and a business does too. Further, leaders people follow are accountable and trustworthy. If progress towards accomplishing the goals ceases, the leader takes responsibility to analyze the problem—he doesn’t search for people to blame.
Being entrusted with a team project is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your managerial skills. Even though your official title hasn’t changed, there are many ways you can show your boss and colleagues that you’ve got what it takes to be a leader and earn their respect.
Focus on your goals only, not comparing yourself to others. Everybody has their own advantages, disadvantages, and obstacles to overcome. Formulate a plan to achieve your own definition of success, and figure out the steps you need to take to get there (education, experience in a new job, investing, etc.), and begin taking the first steps to get there. Once you’re making progress toward your goal, no matter how small, you’ll be more driven by your own accomplishments and less worried about others.

Individual and team development are important activities carried out by transformational leaders. To develop a team, leaders must first understand team dynamics. Several well-established and popular models describe this, such as Belbin’s Team Roles  approach, and Bruce Tuckman’s Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing theory  .
Show that you care. This is one of the most important pieces of advice I have ever gotten. The next time you speak to someone, focus on showing that you really care about what they are saying. Nothing cheers people up more than realizing that they have a genuinely interested audience.
Leadership is a combination of tangible and intangible skills such as wisdom, integrity and presence, that can be developed by personal evaluation and insight and the desire to grow. The definition of leadership depends upon individuals in particular situations or circumstances. What makes a great leader in one context may not in another. A great leader knows his or her strengths and weaknesses, exhibits wise judgment and a steady hand and is able to guide employees towards reaching personal and professional success.
Being a good leader isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes you will have to make difficult or unpopular decisions, or maintain your positivity even when you don’t really believe it. This is where your leadership mindset will be the difference between mediocre and exceptional leadership. Your company can only meet the goals you set if you are at the front, leading by example, motivating and encouraging your employees to become coordinated and focussed. If you are going into a ‘new frontier’, then there will be mistakes, miscalculations and the inexperience of everyone involved in this new venture. In situations like this it is your leadership that defines whether you succeed or fail. Ultimately, there are many different styles of leader, but each of these qualities are important elements in the mix.

That’s because the problem with typical goal setting is that the goals set are too broad — and you have no idea where to start. So when you set a goal like, “I want to get healthy,” you end up spinning your wheels.
Although leaders may be born with qualities that make them effective at influencing others, good leaders are always learning. Employee service is a commitment from the leader to provide the employee with a high level of service to satisfy the employee’s needs, Employees have many needs and by satisfying these needs the leader will engage the employee’s discretionary effort of their people.
A leader was once seen as someone who presided from on high, dispensing wisdom, reward and discipline. The historic view of a leader was of someone in command and control who took a strong role in issuing directives and enforcing their execution while remaining at a distance from the daily work.

Every great leader shares six characteristics, and it is these characteristics that help them to succeed. Every exceptional leader has developed and honed their leadership skills, continuously learning and developing over time to shape their leadership success.
A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work.
So, how do we grow strong leaders? How do we harness Michelle Obama’s power-to-inspire? How do we bottle some of Churchill’s gravitas. How do we motivate people to dream as big as Elon Musk? Below, I explore how to develop strong leadership skills within our own management teams.
Great leaders take them in strides. They remain calm and logically think through the situation and utilize their resources. What they don’t do is fall apart and reveal to their team how worried they are, which leads to negative morale, fear and binge-drinking under desks.
Conscientiousness. Leaders are often dominated by a sense of duty and tend to be very exacting in character. They usually have a very high standard of excellence and an inward desire to do one’s best. They also have a need for order and tend to be very self-disciplined.
